Knitting with Fabric and Puttin' On the Lace
Do you find yourself with dozens of silk scarves which you have not worn in years?
Do you have a small amounts of yardage you just did not have the heart to throw out? It was just so beautiful and one of these days you thought that you would find just the right garment to sew and use up all the material?
Well, fret no more! If you are a knitter or crocheter, or hopefully both, Valentina will guide you through this class.
The possibilities are endless; knit a yoke and use fabric for the bottom or knit or crochet the bottom, too with a complementary yarn and you'll have a stylish top or skirt.
Enjoy the fun of cutting up fabric or scarves into narrow strips and knit or crochet with them. The textures are exciting and the mixture of colors is always a surprise!
Do you have bits and pieces of beautiful lace or crocheted doilies (which our grandmothers used by the ton)? Cut them up and decorate a lapel or sleeve cuff, the outcome is a pretty new garment.
Stop in the store to see the beautiful sample and start now on your garment.
Materials to bring:
About 1 yard of fabric or scarves, either 100% silk or cotton; scrap yarn (any weight, any fiber, any color); knitting needles, size #8, #9, #10, or larger (since we are knitting w/fabric, needles should be on the larger size); one circular needle, also on the large size (IMPORTANT--do not forget a circular knitting needle!); medium size crochet hook; scissors; bits of lace or doilies; sewing thread and sewing needle.
Friday April 30th 10am-4pm $65
Knitting Beyond the Boundaries
Combine Knitting with Fabric and Vintage Garments
In this class Valentina will guide you through the creative possibilities of adding knitted or crocheted pieces to a garment or fabric pieces you already have or can make.
For a stylish look of a woman, adding knitted pieces to a man's vest is perfect. For that extra feminine touch, buttons can be changed and the existing buttonholes can be embellished.
Men's ties are made of fabulous silks and brocades. Cut one or two up and use as the design focus in your knitting.
CL Trio will also have fabric squares or rectangles for purchase, if cutting up ties is not your thing. Your fabric square will become the design focus in your knitting and Valentina will not only show you how to put it together but will assist you in picking out the complimentary fibers to make it a piece of art.
A vintage vest or blazer (men's wear is best); men's ties or pieces of fabric; strong thread for sewing (Valentina recommends using upholstery thread or pearl embroidery thread cotton); sewing needle; odd buttons; scrap yarn; knitting needles sized to work with scrap yarn; medium size crochet hook; scissors.
CL Trio has embroidery thread, fabric pieces (available March 2010) and odd buttons for purchase for this class.
